1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They have motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice), they use intelligent mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet, allowing it clean quickly.

Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be changed for a wet one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also has an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combination utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. You can alter the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was great and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however it offers superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically empties into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units this robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot mop that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's more expensive and make more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was often confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to how dirty they tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it is worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you have a number of furniture. Additionally a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas to improve performance. The app also grants access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for pet hair. It also has the ability to set up a spot cleaning that thoroughly cleans a particular area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to getting caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
