Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or for jogging 3 wheel stroller. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight places.

For an easy ride, opt for a pram fitted with air-filled tyres. Look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. They are, however, susceptible to punctures. Be prepared with an emergency repair kit.

Sturdy frame

Figures have just been released showing that the three-wheeled buggie - that noughties symbol of more money than sanity is on the verge of disappearing. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easier to drive, while also looking elegant.

The general principle is that the larger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy and rough pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with an infant and a 3 wheel baby buggy-year-old child and found it to be extremely durable. It was able to handle cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasionally pumping) come with suspension built-in, which was very comfortable for my children.

Another thing to think about is the seat size and shape. You want the seat to be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat that allows the child to face you, whereas others only allow a parent-facing one.

An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. The buggy can be used as a single unit from birth and then adapts to take two children when your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth to age 4 and includes a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a huge cushioned seat. Storage options are also a plus with a large storage basket with zip pockets on the hood and a handy pouch on the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with a greater diameter

Larger wheels mean that your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - perfect for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies feature rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are specifically designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you crash into trees or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to avoid hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheel pushchairs have air-filled tyres. This means they can be used on different terrains and are much more flexible than four wheelers. They are also lighter. They are prone to punctures, so you will require an repair kit and spare inner tubes on hand.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo Lux are among our top 3 wheel jogger-wheelers. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles" and are able to effortlessly move up and down kerbs. The buggies also come with a suspension that according to Kath "smooths out bumps extremely effectively".

Buggies with larger wheels may be quite wide and they may be a challenge to fit into tight spaces. This can be an issue if you plan to are using it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow when on the move. Fortunately, the majority of models come with compact folding options that let you take off the front wheels to create more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheeler can be easier to maneuver with a child. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels rotate at a quick pace and are incredibly easy to maneuver and are ideal for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles and bumpy pavements as well as dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried out a three-wheeler with her infant and toddler and wrote: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough terrain with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also awed by the way it handled the kerbs, particularly when using the brake operated by hand. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on uneven terrain."

The only downside of this great mobility is that the 3 wheel compact stroller wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean it has to struggle in tight spaces, something to consider if you live in a city region. If this is a problem then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better choice for you.
