1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've tested. They feature motors that are top of the line and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also have carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept in cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.
It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, although it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average in comparison to other models.
You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy units of the competition. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums with mop vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the high-end robot mop and vacuum. It has a range of features that are advanced and will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, as well as washes and dry mop pads.
The smart robot vacuums with mop makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not foolproof in our testing and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house using the app or via voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or set up a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize the most soiled areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
