Ten Three Wheeled Buggies Myths You Should Not Share On Twitter
Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spots.
If you are looking for a smooth ride on your baby, opt for models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. However, they are prone to punctures, so make sure you are prepared with a repair kit.
Frame made of sturdy material
New figures show that three-wheeled buggies that were the symbol of the noughties that were more expensive than common sense, are in rapid decline. They are being replaced by four-wheelers that can be more versatile in terrain, yet still look elegant and easy to push.
The rule is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy ground and rough pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with a newborn baby and a toddler and found it to be extremely sturdy. It handled cobbles, grass and rough pavements, as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She noted that it was solid to push and very solid on difficult terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and need to be pumped regularly they have suspension built-in. This was very comfortable for my kids.
The size and shape of the seat is another aspect to consider. The seat should be big enough for your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies have a lie-flat option that lets your child face you, while others only allow a face-to-parent one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and wet walks. This buggy is ideal for a single child from birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth until age 4, and includes a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a big cushioned seat. The storage options are great as well, with a large basket, zip pockets inside the hood and a handy pouch on the back of the seat unit.
Larger wheels
Larger wheels means that your buggy will have more stability on uneven terrain, which is ideal for off-road buggies. Additionally, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with the front wheels that swivel to aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and come with fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be driven. This is also helpful if you bump into an unintentional tree root or road, as the front wheel can be lifted up slightly to prevent you from hitting it.
Many 3 wheel travel stroller wheel pushchairs feature air filled tyres which means they can handle different terrains and are much more flexible than 4-wheeler. They are also lighter. However, they're prone to punctures so you'll need to have a repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.
Our top three-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels which she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily go up or down kerbs. The buggies also come with suspensions that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".
The downside of having larger wheels is that they make some buggies quite broad and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This can be an issue especially if you're using it to a jogger or to maneuver through narrow doorways when out and about. Most models come with compact folding options that let you remove the front wheels and store them more compactly.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheeler can be more comfortable to drive with a child. They are designed so that the front wheels turn on a dime, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for difficult terrain like parks, cobblestones, bumpy roads, and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried the 3-wheeler with her toddler, and she said: "The Terrain is a joy to maneuver in rough terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially helpful." I was also awed by the way it handled bumps, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was very stable going downhill or on a rough terrain."
The only drawback of this incredible mobility is that the 3 wheel Pushchair wheel buggy's larger wheels sometimes mean that it can be difficult to maneuver in tight spaces - something to be aware of especially if you live in a urban area. If this is a problem, a 4-wheeled buggy may be a better option for you.
