Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for strolling around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight spots.

For a smooth ride, opt for a pram with air-filled tyres. Look for models with 360deg front swivel wheels. However, they are more prone to punctures so be prepared with a repair kit.

Sturdy frame

Recent figures have been released showing that the three-wheeled buggie - that noughties symbol of more money than sense is in a decline. They've been replaced with four-wheelers that are able to be more versatile in terrain, yet still look stylish and easy to push.

The basic rule is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy and rough pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy out with the newborn baby and a toddler and found it to be extremely sturdy. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass, and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt solid to push, and very stable on difficult terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and require to be pumped up regularly they have suspension built-in. This was very comfortable for my children.

Another thing to consider is the seat size and shape. You'll want it to be large enough to accommodate your child's comfort and you will also want it to be able to recline for them to lie flat. Certain three-wheel buggies have a full lie-flat option while others allow the parent to be facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or walking in muddy areas. It can be used as a one-person unit from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers up to age 4 and comes with a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness and a spacious padded seat unit. The storage options are great as well, with a large basket, zip pockets inside the hood and an attractive pouch at the rear of the seat unit.

Wheels with larger diameter

Larger wheels give your buggy more stability when driving over rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. They also allow you to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with rotating front wheels that help you navigate around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability with which they can be driven. This is especially useful when you bump against trees or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to avoid hitting it.

Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres that allow them to handle a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. They are also more susceptible to punctures, so you will need to have an repair kit and spare inner tube in your arsenal.

Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo Lux are some of our favourite 3 wheel stroller lightweight-wheelers. These buggies, as per MFM's Kath, have larger wheels, which she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles", and can easily climb or descend kerbs. They also have suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".

Buggies with bigger wheels can be quite wide, and they may be a challenge to fit into tight spaces. This is an issue when you're using it for an exercise bike or to to get through narrow doorways when out and out and about. Luckily, most models have small folding options that let you take off the front wheels for more compact storage.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the main benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it's much more maneuverable particularly with a child in the back. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can rotate at a moment's notice, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for challenging terrain such as parks, cobblestones as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3 wheeled pushchairs-wheeler with her toddler, and she reported: "The Terrain is a pleasure to drive in rough terrain. The swivel wheel front was particularly helpful." I was also impressed with the way it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. I found it extremely steady when I was driving downhill or over uneven terrain."

The only drawback of this amazing mobility is that the 3 wheel buggy's bigger wheels sometimes mean it has to struggle in tight spaces, something to be aware of if you live in a urban area. If this is a problem then a four-wheeled buggy might be the better choice for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars are a great method to protect your child from scrapes and bumps while out and about. They are quick and easy to put up and help your child feel secure and safe whilst out on the town or taking on tough terrain.

The fabric sling seat sits snug inside the frame rather than over it as modular seats. It provides the lower centre of gravity at the right height for your newborn and also providing great weight distribution for a simple kerb pop (it takes much less effort to push the buggy over and up a curb than you might think). MFM reviewer Kath said it was excellent on cobbles and grass. It's also a good option for running with its air-filled tyres as well as a the lockable swivel wheel.

A 3 wheel pushchair with car seat-wheel buggy is a great off-road vehicle for handling and performance. With perfect design and engineering, as well as weight distribution this style of buggy can turn on a dime and be a breeze to steer with just one hand. All Mountain Buggies pass the same rigorous global stability standards and tests as buggies with four wheels.

The sport's clever design puts the fabric sling seat within the frame, instead of on top like modular seats. This lets it have lower center of gravity, which means it is more comfortable to push, has a lighter curb-pop (you will not need to put in the same effort to raise the buggy's front end over the curb) and also provides greater stability and balance. With 16" rear wheels, the lockable front wheel, and tyres that are air-filled which allow for a more smooth, comfortable jog.

And that's not the only reason to adore this buggy It's also a great way to get around - our MFM reviewer Kath was amazed by how big it is as well. There's an easily accessible large, spacious basket that's surprisingly spacious for a buggy of this size. Additionally, there's an excellent pouch on the back of the unit, as well as two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood, where you can keep your keys and phone.
