Check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models also self-empty their dust bin on board into a larger one at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the pricier Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums with mop vacuums we've test. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can produce up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other top iRobot models (including the top choice) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans that avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature a feature called carpet boost that boosts the robot's performance when it detects an abundance of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well during our tests. It doesn't also come with a camera to look around corners.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and works while you're at work or in school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. And, if you need to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish automatic vacuum cleaner cleaner that can mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it simple to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average in comparison to similar models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when it's in a carpeted room, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is perfect for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of flooring and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen in other robotic autonomous vacuum/mop combinations.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the bulky models from the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot mop vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a problem in mornings before work, or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the automatic vacuum and mop robot's bin and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home according to how dirty they tend to be.

For larger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd think from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. It also has the ability to set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble adorable eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that can't be used as a bin for emptying.
