3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-road terrain and offers an easy ride for babies. They are also simpler to push and manoeuvre than a four-wheel buggy, particularly those with fabric slings or modular seat units that are positioned tightly in the frame to provide the best shape and weight distribution.

Stability

Three-wheeled buggys are very stable, and this makes them an excellent option for off-road walks (especially when they are equipped with a seat that is all-terrain or off-road). They often feature oversized front wheels, which can cope well with kerbs and bumps as well as rough ground. Some even have a lockable front wheel to provide extra stability on uneven terrain.

It's important to remember that 3-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than their 4-wheeled counterparts and, therefore, are more likely to fall over. That said, the best 3-wheel pushchairs are designed with an ideal geometry and design to make them very stable in all weather conditions. They should be able of turning at a single click and be easy to steer with one hand and have the front wheel rotate 360o which makes them ideal for manoeuvring and navigating difficult terrain.

Find models with pneumatic tyres. These are made to handle nonpaved tracks, and are able to withstand rocks, mud, gravel and other debris. Many all-terrain buggies feature an swivelling front wheel that can be locked to provide stability when working on extremely rough ground too.

A 3 wheel bassinet stroller-wheeled pram is a great option for those who run or love to speed up the hill. This is particularly true if you intend to connect a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is a great example, offering a world-facing seat that reclines flat and has improved 5-point harness and storage space for all your equipment (plus an extension of 50+ sun hood). It's light compact 3 wheel stroller and safe for use starting at birth. It can be used with either a car seat or carrycot. It also allows for some moderate jogging, but it's not designed for serious joggers.

Weight

If you are looking for a buggy to tackle difficult terrain, then you should select one with big tires. They will be able to handle grass, cobbles, and dirt tracks while providing an enjoyable ride for anyone. They're also ideal for jogging since they come with suspension and are simple to climb and descend kerbs. However, the downside is that they can be quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheeler has 16 rear wheels and an swivel wheel lockable to the front which makes it very maneuverable. It has air tyres, that require occasional pumping and can hold a child up to the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath says that her toddler loved the shape of the seat, and she was able to steer it easily with her 3 year old riding along.

Another great option is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, that comes with an adjustable handlebar and a high-quality hood with 50+ UV protection. It's also easy to move up and down kerbs and can fit into small car boot. It can also be used as a pram that comes with an infant car seat for infants and toddlers.

Fabric slings are positioned inside the frame and not on top of the frame like modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity at the right height. It is simpler to push and lighter to kerb-pop (you don't know how many times you'll do that as a brand new parent!).

Seating

There are a myriad of options for seating in three wheelers. The carrycot that comes with it is ideal for a newborn (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a comfortable and cosy lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy). Older babies and toddlers will enjoy the spacious and comfortable seat unit that has adjustable ventilation. The seats are not able to fully recline, but they can be lowered to the lowest point. This should give your child plenty of space and headroom.

A sling seat made of fabric is also available, which offers the advantage of being positioned snugly inside the frame, rather than over the top of a modular seat and this gives a lower centre of gravity and perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push, especially when you're on bumpy terrain or curbs. MFM reviewer Kath loved the way this kind of seat handled these challenges.

This type of buggy has a large basket and other beneficial features like an hood that can be extended with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal and a few innovative lights for visibility that can be positioned on the front of the passengers to increase safety on rough terrain.

If you're searching for a stroller that will grow along with your family it's the sport(tm), a world-first designed to accommodate infants and be adapted to accommodate two or three children as they grow, all in one footprint.

Stores

The 3-wheeled frame makes the buggy more stable to push with one hand and is also ideal for handling rough terrain. However, it also means that the shopping basket can't hold as much as a four-wheeled buggy.

A good quality ATP will come with a great suspension, pneumatic tyres and padding for the handle for your convenience. It is also equipped to carry car seats and a carrycot and you can use it from the time you are born.

MFM's reviewers found that the 3-wheeler frames didn't fit through their home's doors or car boot. If you're concerned about space, make sure to verify the dimensions of the buggy when it is folded before buying.

Choose a 3 wheel bassinet stroller-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. seats when your family grows. They are the best 3 wheel stroller with car seat of both worlds and can help you to save money in the future. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most popular. It can be used from day dot as a single buggy and later converted into twin buggies when your baby is walking.

Tyres

Air filled tyres are designed to give your child an easier ride by cushioning out bumps and uneven surfaces. These are used on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted’s Sport that MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tyres on it made it easy to navigate cobbles and kerbs.

These tyres can be difficult to maintain and will require having their air pressure regularly topped up. These tyres are prone to punctures, and you should always carry an repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be used on pushchairs because they are less expensive than air-filled tyres but are equally durable. You can recognise PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft texture. They also slide over flat and tidy surfaces.

If you move your hand over the tyres you can determine if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it's sliding, then it is a PU. You can also check if your buggy is fitted with PU tyres, by sliding them across flat, clean surfaces. They should roll easily and fit snugly into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This can make your buggy less stable since the foam will lose its springy feel. The tyres can also be noisy due to the fact that they create a lot noise when you turn and drive around town.
