The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on bare floors and are especially adept in removing hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It's still a good robot vacuum deal for those whose office or home has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or going to school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're required to clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few just a few seconds.

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our evaluations. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.

For larger houses, it's worth opting for a model with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot vacuums best to clean one particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful.
