The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can mop and vacuum without needing your attention, and it leaves your floors spotless. Its low cost and top-of-the-line functions (such as a dirt detectors) are positives.

Be sure to check your robot's brushes for hair tangled and large particles, and wash them when required. Some models can also self-empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin at the base. This can reduce the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 Pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've test. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they employ smart mapping to produce precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles like furniture leg. The robots also come with Carpet Boost, a feature which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws that keep them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good robot vacuum value for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you don't get in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle however. If you want to, you can swap the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, but it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing combination vacuum and mop makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste, and it learns your home's layout over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can tell the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a room with carpet which prevents cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also ideal for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ as well as the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a good robot vacuum cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different kinds of flooring, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

This robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our tests thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering a simple mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to put up some more volume and some additional cost this is a capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time detection of hazards but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the home based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or voice controls. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. For families that are busy, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more advanced than its price would suggest. It is a good auto vacuum and mop cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using only one pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's less intuitive and has a tiny base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
