World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. This value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, dependent on the upgrader and what type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to determine a gating condition when waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is capped at an lower level). Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding whether to purchase or sell gear players can look at the levels of the item upgrader mod. It's an indicator of the damage and its quality. The item upgrader Kit level can also be used to compare items when evaluating the inventory of a vendor.

On PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.

There are several theories about how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into consideration the fact that various perks have different value and gems in sockets add to the item's overall value. This process could result in a calculated amount for the item's level, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The item's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the Best item upgrade." The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.

The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item additional damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. It will cost a set amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other methods of rerolling.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within the range, unless it's an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another aspect that can be modified by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to enhance. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives players a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in early game runs than in later ones, because most players value greater weapon scaling and defense over the raw damage gain.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level of the item and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) for a further +40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.

Furthermore there are certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are some cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased and the chance of an upgrade failing cannot exceed 100%..

The success of an item upgrading upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by five percent.

Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
