What is a bedside cot?
A bedside cot for twins crib, also referred to as a bassinet, or co-sleeper is a crib for babies that is attached to your adult bed. This allows your newborn to sleep next to you in safety. This is a safe form of co-sleeping and doesn't increase the risk of SIDS, like bedsharing. It can also help you bond with the newborn baby.
These cots often have a side that is able to be lowered, so you can easily reach your baby at night to feed and comforting. This is particularly useful for mothers who are recovering from a c-section. Many of them are foldable bedside crib or portable which means you can use them to travel or as a temporary solution for newborns who aren't ready to be able to transition into a crib that is large enough.
Choose a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as a protective cover that will shield your baby from staining. You might also want to buy baby-safe accessories such as an infant blanket or a teether.
If you're looking for a longer-term solution, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you transform them into a toddler bed or a cot when the time is appropriate. This is a great way to extend their life span and making the transition smoother. Some come with a removable section at the top that can be transformed into a bassinet. Other models can be used with either an adult bed that is standard or a high-rise bed. This is an excellent choice for families that are planning to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms in the evening. It is also important to consider the size of your bedroom to ensure that you can squeeze the crib comfortably. Many cribs have risers that can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.
The Joie Roomie Glide
The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib manufactured by the English brand Joie, is a great addition to their line of high-quality products for infants. This crib was designed to allow parents to connect and sleep side-by-side with their babies, without sharing one bed. It's loaded with features that make bonding between parents and baby safe, simple, and fun.
A smooth, steady rocking motion could be activated by pressing a button. This can soothe baby into sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn't disturb their natural sleep pattern. This is perfect for older babies or toddlers who have difficulty settling down. It can also assist with digestive problems like colic and reflux.
The crib can be locked in it once the rocking is finished to stop it from moving and can also be secured to the side of your bed with clips and straps. This makes the crib very solid and secure, allowing you to sleep peacefully, without having to worry that your baby will roll off into the middle. The rounded cocoon shape has softly cushioned sides and double mesh windows at both ends to allow for ample air flow while making sure your baby is safe.
The mattress included is comfortable and firm. It includes a washable cover. The crib is easy to assemble and disassemble with a lightweight aluminium frame that makes it very portable. The four locking wheels are covered with rubber to ensure that the crib doesn't leave marks on your floor and are easy to move around. The crib is easy to clean with the wipeable woven fabric and is able to be easily tucked away in a bag for the duration of your stay.
The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir
Created to be a safe crib for babies from birth to six months old, this top model has rocking bars and castors that allow for ease of movement. The deluxe airflow mattresses provide an ideal sleeping surface while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are six different height settings as well as an incline option that can aid in reducing reflux and congestion.
The Tutti Bambini COZee air crib comes with a removable fabric and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than bedside cribs that can be a mess to clean. It also has a top bar that can be easily lowered to accommodate feedings at night without the need to juggle zips.
Anna found that the CoZee was a safe and comfy sleep space for her newborn. She was pleased that it didn't sway like some other models, so it didn't wake her in the night when she was trying to comfort her baby for feedings. She also liked that the sides of the chair was lowered so she didn't have to reach over her partner to carry the child out for nighttime feedings.
The CoZee is available in oak and charcoal and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It looks more designer than the other cribs we've tested that are usually utilitarian. It is also relatively light at just 11kg. It also comes with a carry-on case, so you can take it on holiday or when you are moving home. You only need to purchase an waterproof sheet and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and pictures are easy to follow when you first open the box.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet that can be placed at the bedside that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant while they sleep. It can be adjusted both up and down and shifted through three different slide positions to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner, so the baby is always at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to see your baby easily. You can also store additional pajamas and other items in the large storage basket under.
The Iora is a smaller bedside cots for newborns cot that can fold flat. It also comes with a travel bag which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room, and our mum testers felt it was the perfect size for a Bedside Rocking Crib (Opensourcebridge.Science) crib. They also appreciated the large storage basket perfect for storing spare bedding or nappies.
This is a great choice for parents looking to co-sleep, but don't wish to share their beds or whose partner may have mobility issues, like arthritis or back issues. Our mom testers were thrilled to be able to easily access their child in the Iora and that it came with an optional reflux incline that helped to reduce gas.
Our moms also love the fact that it meets NICE guidelines that state to put the baby in the crib or Moses basket on its own (with no toys, blankets, pillows, etc). The mattress is also firm and comfortable for the baby and sheets are easy to find. It isn't as light as other cribs for bedside use, though, so if you want something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the other options on our list.
