World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to boost the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item.
It is also used to enforce gating requirements when queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It also serves to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can view their average item level upgrade level in their character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it is capable of causing. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when evaluating the inventory of a seller.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are various theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.
It's not the only factor that influences the level of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also change its stats. For instance it can add a level to the item's haste or crit score. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher value.
Item Stats
Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.
Upgrades to an item may increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times at higher prices.
Another way to change the stats of an item is by affixing it. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.
All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can select which stats they want to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique, or an item that has a God Roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, this will have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It does not, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is especially useful in the early game, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each item level. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials like the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Additionally there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be used to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or created with the right ingredients.

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it does not work.
When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade item successfully and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent and each item that has Luck increases this chance by five percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects may be masked by the overlays.
