Boosters
With an upgrader for your item you can enjoy numerous bonuses. They can include stats as well as extra bonuses. These bonuses can be incorporated into weapons, armor, and trinkets. They can be used to boost a character's abilities or to give a new dimension of variety to their character.
The World of Warcraft upgrade system allows players to upgrade their equipment by paying currency to an item upgrader. This system was introduced in Mists of Pandaria and was expanded with the introduction of Warlords of Draenor. It's a good way to increase the level of your equipment, allowing you avoid the tedious grind of questing and avoid a bunch of wipes in Mythicand dungeons.
When an item is improved, its base type will change. Upgrades to a normal item produce an Exceptional version, while upgrades to an Exceptional model create an Elite. The item will retain all of its pre-upgrade statistics, but will also gain an additional bonus due to its new base type. The bonus is randomly chosen. It could be a weapon with more damage range, a faster speed of reloading, or an increased max defense roll.
The amount of extras you can get by upgrading is contingent on the number of upgrades performed. Each upgrade will increase the number of extras by a maximum of 3 points. Each upgrade will also boost the main stats by +1.
Some upgrades also give you a secondary random boost in addition to stat boosts. These boosts can be very valuable and should be considered when deciding which items to upgrade. Some of these boosts are only suitable for specific builds (such as Whistan's shield in FB sorcs) while others can provide a great deal of value to certain collectors.
Certain items come with a built-in boos that is not beneficial when upgraded. For example the Goldwrap provides extra potion slot. These are usually upgraded to add value to a nearly perfect item.
Costs
There are a few costs related to upgrades of items. The first cost is the upgrade itself. It can be costly and is contingent on the new value of the item and the number perks it gains. It can also be expensive to upgrade an item to a higher tier (such as Explorer > Champion, or Veteran > Heroic).
The second is the price of the items required to upgrade. The items used are usually either Power Dices (dropped by monsters 21and over) or Minerals and Erons (obtainable by completing specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor quests). These materials can be found in the inventory of an Upgrade Vendor.
Upgrades to an item are complicated and requires time. Depending on the size of the upgrade, it can take as long as 8 hours. The base stats of the upgraded item upgrading are calculated based upon its new ilvl as well as other properties. This calculation determines the new Armor Class bonus, damage dice, and other important statistics. In some cases upgrades can provide additional perks. These perks are listed on a table.
In rare instances, the upgrade will replace only the highest-costing perks. The upgrader can also make other adjustments to the item, for example, changing the type of damage it deals to its weapon or removing a operative or unwieldy function. These modifications are based on an item's ilvl and may require special materials, such as the adamantine.
Success Rate
Upgrades to items are based on an opportunity, and like any random system there is the possibility that the upgrade won't succeed. However there are a few factors that can help to increase the chance of success. These include the use of an item dubbed an Upgrade Pity or the addition of additional materials to the upgrade.
The Upgrade Pity can be purchased through the NPC for crafting in Lost Ark. It increases the odds of a successful upgrade by an amount. It is similar to the "luck bonus" that some items provide however it is more reliable. It can be added to any weapon or armor and is used three times.
It is also possible to add a number of additional items to the upgrade, which increases its chances of success. These are shown in a window above the + button. However, there are limitations to this, and the maximum amount of material that can be added is shown right above the + button in the UI.
Another method to increase the odds of a successful upgrade is by using the item known as a Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This item can be helpful in the event that your item or weapon is near or has reached the highest level of its tier. It will let you upgrade that piece of equipment to the next level without having to worry about it breaking.
If an upgrade is unsuccessful it will be restored to its initial state. This is typically a break, but it could also be a downgrade. Save an upgrade until you are nearing the maximum level of an item upgrades.
Kafra has a number of products that can be used to increase the chance of an upgrade succeeding.
