It's easy to move around in a light double pushchair, especially if you have kids of varying age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and transport up and down stairs.
This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also features adjustable reclining, UPF 50+ canopies and peekaboo windows. It also comes with an expanding frame size to accommodate an additional car seat or a second passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of lightweight double pushchairs we've tested are side-by-side designs and are best suited for children who can sit up unassisted because they aren't equipped with car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both great options that provide adjustable recline in both seats, a large canopy and padded 5-point harnesses. They are also easy to move around, despite their larger footprint. They are ideal for parents who are worried about fitting through doors.
The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its clever frame that extends its width to create an additional seat, making it smaller than the majority of other pushchairs that are side-by-side on the market. This means it can fit through standard doorways and is easy to move around on public transport. It also doubles as a jogger which is great news if you want to use it with a baby carrier or infant car seat. It's also available in a variety of fun colors.
Another fantastic side-by-side light double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which allows for even more customization through a modular frame. The innovative design allows you to convert it into a double or single buggy by adding two carrycots or car seats for children. It can even accommodate twins. It is a practical option for families that are growing. The UPPAbaby umbrella stroller is one of the lightest, sexiest and most stylish available.
If you're looking for a compact and lightweight double, you can try the egg2 which folds down to the size of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a double or single by adding two carrycots or baby car seats. Our test subjects were awed by the ease of move around even with a load of children.
Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't foolproof however -when your children are of the same age or at the same stage, they might still argue over who gets to ride in which seat. And if they're different heights, a tandem model could be better for them as it lets them look at each other.
Tandem
While side-byside models might be more appropriate for siblings of the same age tandem pushchairs that are lightweight offer their own perks. Some can accommodate a larger car seat and others come with Reversible seats. Others have an additional carrycot or convertible seat in the middle. They are generally more spacious and simple to get in and out of the baskets, though they tend to be smaller than those on single buggies. Many feature larger canopies, peekaboo windows and even padding for the leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach tandem is another excellent example of a light tandem that offers an excellent value. The fabrics are a little less luxurious than those of some of our top-rated doubles. However, it looks stunning and is easy to use. One of the most impressive things about it is its one-handed fold. Although it will require some practice, Kirstie in our Lab has said it's "genius". The carrycot is not foldable when it is attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.
Tandem lightweight amazon double stroller strollers will generally have a more precise turning compared to side-byside models. However, they may be difficult to drive on uneven surfaces and curbs. They are also a little slower to speed up and are heavier to move, which could put strain on your back.
A convertible double buggy is another option. It starts out as a single, but you can add adapters to make it a double. It could have a second seat, carrycot or both in front. Or the children can be seated together. Some also have the option of adding a buggy board, which could help older children keep up with younger siblings.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be transformed into a twin-sized pushchair by purchasing additional cocoons at PS59 each. The cocoons create an open space for infants. These can be placed in a row or joined to one another and you can use them with the baby car seat that comes with the pushchair (as as long as you select a compatible one). Because they're made from high-quality materials, these types of dual-use buggies can often be used for a long time without showing much wear, which means they have a an excellent price resales.
Single-to-Double
For families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade from a single stroller, this lightweight double buggy transforms into a jogger thanks to a nifty kit that includes air-filled tyres and all-wheel suspension. It is also a good option for twins, or children of different ages and, as a triple tandem, it can take on rough terrain. It's an excellent choice for parents who want a chic design as simple as a single. It comes in different fabric colours.
We loved the way that this iCandy model folds down using a single-hand mechanism that's extremely simple to master. And although it's heavier than some of the other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, our home tester Karolina claimed that it feels extremely maneuverable, even with two toddlers and a carrycot.
You can buy add-ons like the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) that are ideal for infants. Our test panel found that the seats were comfortable for toddlers and had good lumbar support and headrests. There are many options for reclined seats, with the front seat can be adjusted to different positions, and the back seat also having a reclining option.
The biggest drawback of this kind of buggy is that it's generally larger overall than the side-by-side doubles which makes it more difficult to maneuver through doorways, and can be tricky to maneuver around kerbs. However, the wheels and suspension are generally able to do a good job of coping with paved surfaces and the fact that they're generally much lighter than some of the side-by-sides, means you still have plenty of storage space. These strollers can be difficult to maneuver through supermarkets with narrow aisles, and they may struggle to carry a large amount. Even though it's easier to turn the stroller on a small curved path, this can still be a problem. Some are also more easy to turn than others, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for instance.
Convertible
The best compact double stroller thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they are able to adapt to changing family requirements. They are typically single buggies and come with adapters to add a second seat, carrycot or (in certain cases) an automobile seat to the frame. Some of them can be converted back to a single when your child grows older and begins to walk more or prefers to ride on a buggy board.
One of the most lightweight off road double buggy strollers on our list, this stylish tri-fold model can carry children as heavy as 40 pounds each. It also has a convenient basket that can be placed between the seats to store things. The spacious canopy with peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and front and back suspension for smoother rides on rough terrain were appreciated by home testers. It also has a convenient parent cup holder and an ample, easy-to-access basket. The backs of the bags have small pockets which are just large enough to hold the phone and keys.
This top-of-the-line, lightweight double stroller side-byside can be used in more than 20 different configurations and includes an additional seat and carrycot. It has a high-profile steering handlebar, front and rear suspensions to smooth out rough terrain and it folds compactly and can stand on its own with straps for easy transport, and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks and ten-inch back wheels with suspensions to ensure an easier ride. The only downside is that you will need to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.
This versatile tandem is the top choice of our home testers because it is easy to maneuver and comes with a large shopping basket that can be accessed from both seats when they are in the parent-facing positions. It is easy to maneuver due to its surprisingly low weight (about the same as a few single pushchairs). Reversible seats mean you can flip them to face either direction, and the clever way that it attaches the second seat or riding board to the rear is praised by many. Parents also loved the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seats from a variety of brands. This includes a few that aren't normally compatible with other double buggies.
